Not a waste of money

I got a great job opportunity this weekend. It was the day after my friend and I prayed for a job because I had felt a bit discouraged over not getting in any money this week while we are on a break. And the job was perfect for me and it took me to the Hilton hotel and a hotel in North Sydney close to Palm beach to babysit the cutest boy ever while his mom attended a wedding. I had never met these people before and they live in Perth (on the other side of Australia, so the job in itself was a miracle). Yesterday night I came home with a taxi, cause it was late and a long way home. And let me tell you, I paid the most I have ever paid for a taxi in my whole life. I will be honest with you here, It was 117 dollars! I don´t know about you, but for me that´s a lot! Not to mention when you are a full-time student. It was kind of part of the job deal to get a taxi home because I would come home really late. But YET I thought; "oh my, how many greater things could I have spent these money on. I should have taken the inconvenient bus instead."

Today when I woke up I had a chat with God. And I started to utter my little concern of how it felt like a big waste of money with the taxi, but he stopped me and whispered back to me; "No, it wasn´t a waste". And I was reminded of the great, effortless and genuine 40 minutes chat I got with the young Indian driver. I love to hear about people´s lives, everyone has a story to tell. We talked about our lives, what we are doing and he opened up to me in so many ways. Yes, we even discussed about money, numbers (!) and what life is like as a taxidriver. I think I´ve never met any stranger doing that to me before and you don´t even do that often with close friends. He kept talking about his life and that no one from his family lives here and the only ones he knows are the friends he has gotten to know during the years. I got to share about my life here as well and I told him about Hillsong. That I study there but that it´s also a church and like a second home for me. He told me he has never heard about Hillsong and he has lived in Sydney for 8 years. That amazes me, that someone in Brazil, Canada or Russia knows, but not someone who lives in the same city. And when we arrived I welcomed him to come visit and he said he would love to and I got to tell him where the different campuses are and I told him about their music on youtube and I got to utter the simple but powerful words to him before I left the car; Be blessed!

And this morning God said to me; "It was not a waste. You blessed him. You blessed his business. And if this man finds my grace and love because of that conversation, then 117 dollars doesn´t really matter. If you see him in Heaven one day, maybe along with his family and friends will you look back regretting those 117 dollars?" No, I answered.. And God reminded me that he gave the biggest sacrifice of all for me. His life!

 And it was a weekend of reassurance (not only because of this case) that we are blessed to be a blessing! How great is it that we actually can play a part in someone else´s blessings? We can choose to see what we get as a blessing or take it for granted. But gratefulness will only come from the first option and from that we become more generous as well. There should always be an outpour of things coming our way and get passed on. Otherwise we might end up as fat pigs and it´s not a pretty sight for sure. I love when God challenges me in those things, cause yes he certainly do. I hope you are challenged as well.

Proverbs 11: 24

"The world of the generous gets larger and larger;
the world of the stingy gets smaller and smaller." (MSG)
